They spend their days comparing materials, studying fit, observing trends, and considering where our customers walk, ride, hike, and wander. Different paths brought them here, but they share the same goal: helping you find shoes ready for everyday performance or spontaneous adventures.
Lauren leads women’s footwear, outerwear, and accessories, with an eye for thoughtful design and long-term wear. Her journey with Whole Earth began fresh out of college as a newcomer to Austin. She fondly remembers bike rides to work and spending shifts with folks who shared her passion for urban cycling. She’s a lifelong Chaco loyalist, a sustainability-minded selector, and these days, an adventurer mostly powered by family outings and creative side projects.
TJ heads up men’s footwear, socks, and underwear, bringing a gear-inspired mindset shaped by his time on the sales floor. He discovered Whole Earth by wandering in to pass the time… and missing a movie because he couldn’t stop exploring! His footwear philosophy was forged on the trails of Big Bend in a pair of Oboz Bridgers he still trusts today. When he’s not evaluating new styles, he’s riding bikes around town or diving deep into a new gear obsession.
How They Choose What Makes the Cut
Both Lauren and TJ start with the same big question: Will this hold up out there?
For Lauren, that means looking at sustainability alongside comfort and construction. She gravitates toward thoughtful materials and designs that earn their place over time. “When quality, comfort, and intention all line up,” she says, “that’s when something deserves a yes.”
TJ approaches things from a durability-first mindset. Materials tell him almost everything he needs to know. “If it can’t handle real wear,” he explains, “it doesn’t belong here.” He also keeps a close eye on how different brands fit different foot shapes, making sure the assortment works for a wide range of people.
They both agree that footwear selection is more complex than most folks realize. Lauren considers climate, daily use, and how people actually move through city streets and trails. TJ focuses on performance details like grip and support, plus making sure there’s real variety across the wall. Different lenses, same mission: every shoe should have a clear purpose.

Lauren still remembers saving up for her first pair of Chacos and wearing them everywhere once she finally got them. She’s still drawn to footwear that blends function with everyday wearability.
TJ’s turning point came with his Oboz boots before a Big Bend backpacking trip. He’s tried plenty of shoes since, but those still rank among his most trusted for serious mileage.

TJ is watching minimal footwear gain momentum across more brands and is especially energized about new warm-weather styles built for versatility, travel, and time near the water.
